Week 8: Jyrki Lumme

Severely damaging tires is DYN-O-MITE!

Week 8 was a good one for the ladies of the Damage, who defeated both the Mighty Mice and the DUHHH Project to complete a three-game winning streak. And while Patrick Roy (3.54 ppg) scored 9 this week, our selection for Tire of the Week is Jyrki Lumme. Lumme has not been a prolific scorer for the past two seasons, but he did manage to win his defensive assignment against the Mice.

We caught up with the Jyrki on the set of "Good Times - The Reunion 2003."

So let’s talk acting. How did you land this part?

Well, they were planning this reunion show, and they really wanted the original cast but they didn’t have a huge budget. Surprisingly, the cast was all about it, even Janet Jackson, but Jimmy Walker’s career has just taken off, ya know. With all his appearances on the Hollywood Squares he just didn’t have the time and his asking price was too high.

But how did you get the part of JJ?

I have a summer place on the south side of Chicago where I spend the off-season. The producers were out scouting a JJ replacement and they spotted me on a street corner selling watches. I said something like, "Yo. You would be blowin’ up in this watch!" and I guess that reminded them of "dynamite" or something like that.

Wow. That’s some story. Now turning to hockey. Why are you so terrible now?

What?

In the 90’s you had a couple of 50 point seasons, the 99-00 season you had 40, and last year you were voted off the island after tallying one point in 15 games. This year you have 6 points in 41 games and Toronto’s defense is allowing many more shots against. Why do you suck now?

Yo! I’m going to go Finnish on yo’ a@#!!!

This interview and scuffle was terminated after Janet Jackson—Miss Jackson if you’re nasty—got between the fight participants and pulled Lumme and this reporter apart. It was the greatest conclusion to an interview this reporter has ever experienced.
